Whilst having fun refining my Silly Flip’s, I couldn’t help wondering why this trick hasn’t made it into the ICF scoring appendix. Below are two rough video comparisons; the first clip shows a Silly Flip vs a Pan-am…then the second a Silly Flip vs a Vertical Blunt (close to Pan-am), both for visual contrast…showing the distinct differences in the boats movement pattern.
Harry Price and myself had a quick go at describing a Silly Flip over a post surf coffee…using the same terminology as the ICF appendix…
Starting within +/- 45° in line with the flow and the bow facing upstream.
A 360° rotation around the longitudinal axis of the boat beginning with an aerial invert (180°) on the longitudinal axis, within +/- 20° (horizontal) of the initiation. Before completing the 360° rotation a 180° horizontal spin is instigated, where the boat is aerial for at least 160° into a back surf.
Note: The aerial invert (180°) and 180° spin must be level within a +/- 20° vertical angle.
This year would be great opportunity clarify some of the more advanced tricks/links in advance of the next Worlds…please share your thoughts or PM me.
